Ruth Kiney Memorial Scholarship / Award Fund
Ruth Kiney was Secretary of UGA Bands from 1975 – 1995. During her time serving in this capacity, Ms. Kiney became known as the “mom away from home” to the members of the Redcoat Band. Her strength, courage, dignity, caring and encouraging spirit touched the lives of all Redcoats with whom she came in contact. During her 20-year tenure as UGA Bands Executive Assistant and “mother of the Redcoat band,” Ms. Kiney was known to say that caring for the Redcoats was “more than a job” to her; it was a “way of life.” In memory of Ms. Kiney’s passion for the well-being of the members of the Redcoat Band, the Ruth Kiney Memorial Scholarship / Award is intended to provide an annual award to a UGA Redcoat Member who exhibits the same encouraging and caring qualities of Ms. Kiney, often putting the well-being of other Redcoats above his/her own.
The initial funding of the Ruth Kiney Scholarship will be held by RBAA, Inc. as a non- endowed scholarship fund, with monetary awards funded annually, based on contributions, if a worthy candidate has been identified and selected by the RBAA Scholarship Committee.
